An internationally recognized fashion house. A superbly curated runway of SS2011 collections. A well-heeled front row in YSL pumps and Lanvin booties. An audience replete with professional athletes, media players, and beautiful women. Where was this you wonder. New York City? Paris? Milan? Nope, this fashion spectacular was held right here in Denver.
The MAX fashion show with Diane Von Furstenberg benefiting the Children’s Hospital took place over the weekend. An excuse to get decked out, sip bubbly, and view fabulous fashion…you don’t have to twist my arm. And when a portion of sales goes to an institution that fosters young life on a daily basis, I felt good popping for that ticket.
The night of the event arrives and the EXDO event center is a buzz. After an appropriate amount of mingling time, the bars temporarily close, and guests are ushered to their seats. A few moments of rustling as finely coiffed ladies pull this year’s hot nail color (grey) and Cherry Creek spa certificates from swag bags. The lights dim, music pumps, and the show begins.
From my front row vantage point I could practically touch the nautical braided ropes swinging from the model’s platform lace-up sandals. Electric pastels paired with classic camel hues. Fluid Grecian gowns followed by tailored separates. Funky evening bags aside resort wear basics. Perfect juxtaposition.
Alas, the finale arrives in what seems like a blink of the eye. I always wish the show would go on, but part of the ingenuity of a good designer is knowing how to edit.
Hosting this icon was a fashion feat for Colorado. Diane has it all: beauty, business savvy, impeccable taste, wit and wisdom. In her heavy Italian accent she cracked jokes about her naivety, good looks, and desires (a fast car) as she embarked as a young designer. A fiery woman who encouraged the crowd to dream big and live passionately.
Truly a night fit for goddesses. Well done, MAX.
