As a recent transplant to Colorado from New York City, this has been the first true ski season of my life. Make no mistakes here, I really only enjoy skiing when it is sunny enough to catch a tan, however I have come to adore the culture around skiing – cozy lodges, fur accessories, chili stations with proper accoutrements, Après cocktails, boutique villages.
How charming is this place? I imagine Hansel and Gretel must be the inhabitants.

The restaurant scene in Vail is hopping. Over the past weekend getaways, TW and I explored a couple gems.
Kelly Liken is a polished, chef-owned restaurant offering seasonal cuisine…though it is rather $$$. I had Kelly’s signature trout dish crusted with razor thin potato slices resembling fish scales in a lemon buerre blanc. Divine! We were even treated to one of my favs, a butternut squash soup amuse bouche.
Sweet Basil offers its hip clientele a sleek ambience and fabulous food and cocktails. We started with the lump crab mac and cheese – a light, nuanced take on a comfort classic. I chose the striped bass as an entree and a side of bacon pomegranate brussel sprouts.
On that note, Happy Friday everyone. Indulge in a taste of something beautiful.
